64-bit computing

Optiwave now delivers the power of 64-bit computing to your desktop with next generation applications that address a massive amount of memory, without compromising the performance of your hardware.

The ‘True 64-bit’ edition of Optiwave software products are 64-bit applications written specifically for next generation operating systems. The newly optimized code structure results in improved computing performance and efficient memory utilization. Users are now capable of running large scale ‘real world’ simulations, without any memory restrictions limited to 32-bit applications.

Why 64-Bit?

The key difference between 32-bit and 64-bit computing is the 64-bit computer can use more system memory. Windows XP Professional x64 Edition supports up to 128 gigabytes (GB) of RAM and 16 terabytes of virtual memory, allowing applications to run faster when working with large data sets. Physical memory support will grow in the future as hardware capabilities expand.

The release of processors supporting dual 32-bit/64-bit processing has opened the door for a transition to 64-bit operating systems and native 64-bit processing applications.

Multicore and Multiprocessor Processor Support (32/64-bit processors)

Multicore chips have more than one CPU core; multiple-processor computers have more than one CPU chip. Both are being introduced by manufacturers to speed up tasks by splitting threads or processes among different processors so that they can be performed in parallel.

OptiFDTD 7.1 is the first Optiwave product optimized to support multicore processors and multiprocessor configurations for maximum performance and scalability. Multicore/multiprocessor workstations can benefit from increased simulations speeds where complex OptiFDTD simulations can run up to 10x faster than a normal desktop.
