OTTAWA, ONTARIO --- Optiwave Corporation, a leader in the development of optical design, modeling and validation software for the fiber optics telecommunications industry, and Luna Technologies, an industry leading fiber optic component test and measurement equipment manufacturer, today announced the formation of a co-marketing relationship that builds on each company's value to the market.

Luna's breakthrough product, the Optical Vector Analyzer (OVA), is the first, completely integrated solution for measuring all performance parameters of fiber optic components and sub-modules. Luna's award winning advances in optical component analysis allow the optical communications industry to increase productivity and improve component characterization while dramatically reducing the development process and production costs.

Optiwave's award winning OptiSystem software enables users to plan, test, and simulate almost every type of optical link in the physical layer across the broad spectrum of optical networks. Algorithms are included for dispersion map design, bit error rate calculation, system penalty estimations, and link budget calculations.

Together OVA collects data from components and delivers the data to OptiSystem where the components can be incorporated into a simulation in real time. Optiwave's CEO, Dr. Jan Jakubczyk says, "Optiwave is excited about its recent partnership with Luna Technologies, a leader in high speed multi-parameter component analysis systems. The combination of Luna's industry leading technology and our market-leading OptiSystem design, modeling, and optimization software is an unbeatable match that offers the component design and manufacturing market a uniquely powerful set of tools."

Equally as pleased about the relationship, Luna Technologies' President, John Goehrke commented, "Through a teamed approach, Luna Technologies and Optiwave now allow users to load Luna Technologies' measured linear transfer functions of devices or subassemblies into OptiSystem's simulation device library. Now users can build and simulate optical network performance with the actual devices yielding the bit error rate, optical power penalty, and other key parameters."

At Photonics West 2004, Optiwave featured a demonstration of OptiSystem and Luna's OVA. In live demonstrations, the Luna OVA measured parameters such as loss, group delay and polarization dependent loss from different optical devices. The OVA measurement data files were then transferred to OptiSystem, where analysis showed how the device parameters affect system transmission behaviour.

Optiwave will be at the Optical Fiber Conference in Los Angeles, CA, Feb 24-26 in booth #3801, and will again be able to show how OptiSystem uses the OVA measurement data files.

Luna will also be at the Optical Fiber Conference in Los Angeles, CA, Feb 24-26 in booth #2238 demonstrating the OVA platform of products.
