Optiwave Recognised Again For Industry Excellence
OptiFDTD Takes NFOEC 2003 Attendees Choice Award

OTTAWA, ONTARIO --- Optiwave Corporation is pleased to announce that OptiFDTD is the winner of Lightwave's NFOEC 2003 Attendees' Choice Award. OptiFDTD is a powerful, highly integrated software application that enables design and simulation of advanced passive and nonlinear photonic components for wave propagation, scattering, reflection, diffraction, polarization, and nonlinear phenomenon. The software is excellent for design and simulation of photonic bandgap materials and devices, optical micro-ring filters and resonators, grating-based waveguide structures, diffractive micro-optic elements, and complex micro-photonic structures and modules.

The scientific basis of OptiFDTD is the finite difference time domain algorithm with second-order numerical accuracy and uni-axial perfectly matched layer boundary condition. The algorithm solves electric and magnetic fields in temporal and spatial domains using the full-vector differential form of Maxwell's coupled curl equations. The newly released OptiFDTD 4.0 features addition of a dedicated band solver module, new PEC/PMC boundary conditions, greatly improved simulator speed, reduced memory requirements, new photonic crystal editor capability, and new 3D shapes.

OptiFDTD also features integration with Optiwave's OptiBPM waveguide modeling software, enabling seamless exchange of layout designs and simulation results. These results can then be imported to award winning OptiSystem software where they can be used for planning and design of optical components and systems.

Each year, NFOEC attendees are asked to vote for their favourite product in each of seven categories: Systems, Subsystems, Components, Test Equipment, Installation, Manufacturing, and Design Tools. Optiwave’s software design tools are routinely nominated in competition with other software companies, and take awards for their superior innovation and excellence.

Dr. Peter Catrysse of Stanford University reports, "We are using OptiFDTD to perform 2D and 3D simulations of CMOS image sensor pixels to evaluate their optical efficiency. OptiFDTD is a very versatile simulation tool, and we have been very impressed with the technical support we have received from Optiwave."
