OptiSystem Lab Assignments
The Optiwave for Educators Program promotes the long-term institutional development of academic programs focussed on fiber optic communication technology.
We are please to provide educators with free lab assignments which can be easily integrated into the curriculum of varied optical communications courses. Our staff will continually add new lessons in the near future, and we also welcome your contributions or suggestions to the community forum.
You must have the latest version of OptiPerformer (freeware) to run these lab assignment files.
LESSON 1 - INTRODUCTION TO OPTIPERFORMER
In this exercise, you will download and install OptiPerformer on your PC/laptop. After which you will run a basic fiber optic system consisting of a transmitter, a fiber and a receiver.

LESSON 2 - ATTENUATION - LIMITED FIBER LENGTH
In this exercise, you will calculate the attenuation-limited fiber length based on the power budget equation. Simulate the resulting system and verify that it meets performance objectives.

LESSON 3 - DISPERSION LIMITED FIBER LENGTH
In this lesson, you will calculate the dispersion-limited fiber length for a fiber optic transport system that employs standard single-mode fiber and a directly-modulated single-mode laser diode transmitter.
